Tomorrow is the 20th anniversary of the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (the American Sorcerer’s Stone wouldn’t be released for another year). In honor of our beloved franchise’s birthday, I thought this song was appropriate.
So first off, I don’t think I knew before now that John Williams composed “Hedwig’s Theme.” It makes sense, of course; he’s been behind many of the most iconic nerdy themes and scores, which I doubt I need to list. It’s only right that he has this one on his list as well.
There couldn’t have been a more perfect theme for the Harry Potter movies. From the mysterious opening notes to the almost whimsical upbeat melodies to the soaring crescendos, everything about the song exudes magic. You know exactly what you’re getting into when you hear it — and you know that it’s going to be something wholly unforgettable. “Hedwig’s Theme” was our first introduction to the Harry Potter film franchise and it will forever hold a special place in the hearts of fans everywhere.
Make sure to check back tomorrow for a special guest post in honor of the book’s anniversary. You won’t want to miss it!
